Hire Hopkins | September 2022

A Message From Our Directors

Dear reader,

It’s a great time of year at Hopkins; the students have all returned, eager to dive in to nine months of learning. And in the midst of all this excitement, we’re in the thick of hiring activity between Future Fest, Hop to the PHuture, and The DEI Collective.

We are working hard to match our hiring partners with our talent, making sure every employer has a chance to connect with a student and make a hire they are excited about.

Last year, companies from the DEI Collective made 122 internship offers to our students and 70% of those qualified as an underrepresented hire and with more employers participating, we’re eager to see even more students hired this year!

While internship season is 9 months away, now is the time to get involved for two reasons:

  • Larger companies are scooping up talent right now, so to be competitive, we urge you to get involved. We can help you get your internship program launched by holding you accountable to deadlines in the DEI Collective and gather candidates for you.
  • Hiring interns is a long-term play; while it’s hard to make the time for it, it doesn’t have to be so complicated and we’ll show you how. Invest in your team now and receive the benefits of it in the future when your interns convert to full-time hires!

If you’re ready to apply to get access to our students, great! Here’s the application. If you’d like to learn more, visit our website. But don’t wait too long! The deadline to apply is Monday, September 26th at 11:55pm ET.

Warmly,

Alia Poonawala

*Confirmed DEI hire = first generation, limited income, black, hispanic, indigenous, Pacific Islander, mixed race or international student (students with disabilities and LGBTQIA status are also considered DEI in our definition, however, those attributes are not disclosed in profiles, so we are unable to track that segment of our offers and hires.)

We sat down with JHU students and showed them 3 different job descriptions across industries to get their take. What did they like and what did they not like? See what they said!
