Recapping Future Fest Chronicles: Unveiling FLI Student’s Journeys

We have to shine a bright light on all student presenters at Future Fest Chronicles (FFC): Unveiling of FLI Students’ Journeys!  This student showcase was intentional to highlight all the vast experiential learning opportunities FLI students had in Summer 2024.  Student showcases’s are common at most institutions, but being immersive and innovative is what made this one stand out.  Students have many stories to tell and most of the time, a career development office is not involved in this process.  In the Life Design Lab, we are woven into academic and student affairs departments within the institution. Because of this, we have high touch points with students in various sectors of their life design and career journey.  The students who presented at FFC are an integral part of this high-impact program.  These FLI students are being spotlighted because their stories share specific themes:

  • Resilience:  Each FLI student journey demonstrates resilience.  Alexandro had a daily 4-hour roundtrip commute to his internship/research opportunity at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.  He drove 2 hours each way (4 hours total), five days per week for five weeks to gain research and clinical experience.
  • Growth Mindset: Each story demonstrated their openness to new adventures and adaptability to pivot.  Kailyn had two study-abroad experiences in Jamicia and St. Lucia. She created a plan and utilized JHU resources to curate these international experiences to broaden her work and worldview.
  • Strategy: Each student created and implemented a strategy to make connections and optimize JHU resources.  Their strategic plans included networking, timelines, resources and financial literacy.  They made it happen!
  • Inspiration: We believe FFC is an inspiration to all students and we will continue to have a space that will highlight FLI Students’ Journeys!
