Career360: Shadowing

After a highly successful  Spring run, the Doctoral Life Design Studio (DLDS) is excited to invite employers, alumni, and professionals to partner with us for the upcoming Fall cohort of  Career360: Shadowing, launching September 1.

If you’re interested in supporting emerging talent and sharing your field’s reality with the next generation, sign up to host by August 12. Once you sign up, a member of our team will follow up with next steps.

For additional information, please reach out to Amen Justice-Awuzie at ajustice@jhu.edu.

This past  Spring, over 50 doctoral students and postdocs participated in Career360. Through immersive shadowing experiences and career conversations, they significantly increased their clarity about career paths, confidence in making career decisions, and connection with industry leaders.

Our Spring hosts came from a range of fields and organizations, including

  • Biotech and Pharma: AstraZeneca and Clasp Therapeutics
  • Engineering and Technology: Northrop Grumman Advanced Technologies Lab and Mind Over Machines
  • Research and Academia: MATRIX — The UTSA AI Consortium for Human Well-Being and Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum
  • Consulting and Innovation: U.S. Census Open Innovation Labs and Beghou Consulting
  • Venture and Investment: Blackbird Labs, Early Charm Ventures, Pickwick Capital…and many more.

Our Fall cohort already has over 30 students eager to be matched, and the list is growing.  Many Spring hosts are returning, and we’re still welcoming new professionals and organizations (alum and non-alum) to join.

This is an opportunity to share your professional journey, highlight your organization’s work, and build connections with the next generation of talented researchers and professionals.

Career360: Shadowing is a two-day immersive exploration experience for doctoral students and postdocs designed to boost clarity, confidence, and connection through direct exposure to real-world work environments, authentic conversations, and behind-the-scenes observation that spark long-term career direction and growth.

Each experience includes six key touch points:

  • Facility Tour (if in person)
  • Career Conversations
  • Q&A Opportunities
  • Networking Introductions
  • Observing Meetings (as permitted)
  • Observing Tasks (as permitted)

We understand every organization is unique. We can discuss how to tailor the experience as needed (NDAs, confidentiality, etc).
