Reflections on Recruiting Season

The Thanksgiving Talent Buffet: A Letter of Gratitude from Hopkins’ Students

Dear reader,

As the leaves change and our late-day meetings now happen at sunset, I find this season to be a perfect time for reflection (especially as hiring slows down for the holidays).

Last week, I attended the World Business and Innovation Forum in NYC. After three consecutive days of bagels for breakfast, I finally had the chance to hear Brené Brown speak. One point that resonated deeply was her assertion that true leadership means embracing vulnerability. Every bold idea involves risks and uncertainty, and we’re faced with a choice: build walls to stay safe, or step forward with courage, even when the outcomes aren’t clear.

How do you lead with courage and make waves in your teams? It might be as bold as launching a new program and as simple and heartfelt as organizing a Thanksgiving potluck to bring your team together.

With recruiting season drawing to a close, it’s a great time to reflect. In what ways did you step up? What successes are you celebrating? What lessons will shape your next steps?

Thank you for your partnership. Wishing you and your teams a joyful and restful Thanksgiving.

Warmly,
