As a PhD student or postdoc, your career holds countless possibilities. At the Doctoral Life Design Studio, we’re here to guide your career journey, and support you at critical junctures.
DLDS office hours offer one-on-one support for questions about career paths, application materials, networking strategy, interview preparation, job offer negotiation, or the use of appropriate resources.

How It Works
Step 1: SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Visit Handshake and click ‘Career Center.’ Navigate to ‘Appointments’ and select ‘Schedule a New Appointment.’ You will then be able to select the option right for you.
Step 2: COMPLETE PRE-MEETING SURVEY
Answer a short survey to help your career educator prepare. If you’d like document feedback, please upload your document to your Handshake profile 48 hours in advance.
Step 3: ATTEND YOUR APPOINTMENT
In your one-on-one session, you’ll receive practical advice, get answers to your questions, and create a plan of action.
Step 4: TAKE THE NEXT STEP
You’ll walk away with concrete next steps and resources to guide you forward.
CareerKit Workshop Series
Before your office hours meeting, consider joining one of our weekly CareerKit workshops for doctoral and postdoctoral scholars. Each session covers key steps in preparing for a range of career paths. You’ll participate in a 30-minute lesson followed by a 30-minute practicum, allowing you to learn practical strategies and apply them immediately with feedback.
Topics include career design, application materials (resumes and cover letters), networking and LinkedIn, interviewing, and job offer negotiations.
