Connecting with Federal Representatives

“Connecting with Federal Representatives: Strategies to Effectively Advocate for Your Research” is a workshop to help you prepare for advocating for your research interests and/or priorities at Capitol Hill. This workshop is open to all doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows at JHU.

In partnership with the JHU Office of Federal Strategy, this event will highlight best practices when meeting with Congressional representatives to advocate for your passions.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss:

  1. Best practices in communicating your ideas and pitching your asks to Congressional representatives and their staff
  2. How to identify the appropriate Congressional committee, Representative, and/or staff for specific issues
  3. How to plan and manage your visit to Capitol Hill

Come prepared with questions and a draft pitch. After a short informational session, we will have a Q&A with the speakers from the JHU Office of Federal Strategy and there will be an opportunity to hear input about your Congressional asks. We may not be able to provide input on all pitches.

Light food and refreshments will be provided.
