Girl Scouts of Utah is hiring a Membership Recruitment Specialist!

Are you looking for a part-time job with flexibility?

Do you want to be a part of an organization that makes a difference in the lives of others?

Do you have strong and inclusive communication skills and enjoy engaging with youth and volunteers?

ABOUT GIRL SCOUTS OF UTAH (GSU):

GSU’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The Girl Scout leadership activities are organized around 3 keys of leadership: Discover, Connect, and Take Action, and are based on the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

A Day in the Life of a Community Recruitment Specialist:

The Community Recruitment Specialist is a PRN employee who implements effective marketing and recruiting strategies to increase awareness and participation in Girl Scouting through in-person presentations; leading membership information/registration events at various community locations including community events, schools, faith-based institutions, and libraries.

Responsibilities include adult and girl recruitment, marketing Girl Scouts, capturing leads, hosting an engaging Girl Scout activity for girls and their caregiver/parent, and using proven sales techniques to convert leads in support of council membership goals. All functions are coordinated collaboratively with council staff and volunteers.

A PRN (as-needed) position is a flexible, on-call role where the employee works only when needed, rather than having a set schedule. For this specific position:

  • The employee will typically attend 1-2 events per week based on organizational needs.
  • They will work an average of 5 hours per week during the active season, which runs from February through October.
  • Hours may vary depending on event schedules, but the role does not guarantee a minimum number of hours each week.
  • Current Indirect Service Volunteers with Girl Scouts of Utah are welcome to apply and can hold this position while continuing to fulfill their volunteer commitments (camp coach, council trainer, green team member, helping hand, trip chaperone, troop supporter/parent). However, Troop Leaders, Co-Leaders, Product Managers, and Service Unit Team Leaders are not eligible to hold this position while actively serving in those volunteer roles.
  • PRN positions are part-time and do not include benefits such as health insurance or paid time off.

This position is ideal for individuals looking for flexible, part-time work while supporting Girl Scouts of Utah’s mission during key events.

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in outside sales, recruiting members, retail, or public relations very helpful
  • Excellent customer service, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
  • Computer proficiency including but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse people and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and manage difficult conversations with professionalism, empathy, and effective communication skills.
  • Associate’s degree or 1-3 years’ experience with volunteer recruitment within non-profit organizations preferred.

Skills:

  • First-hand knowledge of the Girl Scout program greatly preferred
  • A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the mission and vision of Girl Scouts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including regularly working evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel through all jurisdictions of the Girl Scouts of Utah Council to attend meetings, events, training, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness and ability to lead a group event and to engage potential members in conversation.
  • Capable of receiving and implementing feedback effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and competing projects concurrently in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Collaborative, transparent, and inclusive work approach with proven ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Highly organized, ability to multitask, handle pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, take initiative, problem-solve, and self-manage the workload.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details and protect confidential information.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred, but not required
  • Have daily access to dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, compliance with the council’s policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council’s business auto insurance carrier.
