The Johns Hopkins Volunteers for Medical Engineering (JHU-VME) is a branch chapter of The IMAGE Center of Maryland, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities in the greater Baltimore community. Our mission centers around three pillars: developing innovative assistive devices, providing service to the local community, and fostering teamwork among our members. By designing, building, and testing engineering solutions, we aim to enhance the daily lives of those we serve, while offering students valuable hands-on experience and mentorship in the engineering design process.
As a member of Johns Hopkins Volunteers for Medical Engineering (JHU-VME), you will collaborate on innovative projects each semester, gaining hands-on experience in designing engineering tools while working directly with clients. Working through our parent organization, The IMAGE Center of Maryland, you’ll have access to job referrals, speaking engagements, and future project opportunities. Members can also enhance their resumes with project experience, enjoy mentorship from professionals, and develop technical and leadership skills. Additional benefits include a dedicated workspace, industry-focused presentations, patient interaction, and leadership opportunities, all while being part of a supportive, skill-building community.
Our primary goal is to provide students with hands-on experience in engineering while making a meaningful impact on the Baltimore community through the design and development of assistive devices. As a fast-growing club with over 100 members, we aim to expand our project base each semester, fostering greater involvement and collaboration. We are actively seeking partnerships with other student organizations to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration and broaden the scope of our initiatives. Through these efforts, we strive to cultivate an inclusive, innovative environment for students passionate about using engineering to improve lives.
