Brittni Moore
Alumni, Class of 2024, Cellular and Molecular Physiology
Brittni is an Associate of Strategy & Decision Support at Blackbird Laboratories, where she supports investment due diligence and business strategy for emerging biotechnologies. She earned her PhD in Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where her research explored the role of gut microbiota in renal physiology to advance kidney health interventions.

Eden Teodorovici
Junior, Environmental Science & Economics
Eden is a junior from Hagerstown, MD, studying Environmental Science and Economics, with minors in Business and Energy. She is passionate about sustainability and business, using data-driven strategies for environmental impact.
On campus, she is Co-President of JHU Women in Business (WiB) and a Research & Operations Intern at the JHU Office of Climate & Sustainability, working on emissions data and climate strategy. Her interests lie in sustainable energy, ESG investing, and environmental consulting.

Dezmond Cole
PhD Candidate, Biochemistry, Cellular & Molecular Biology
A musician-turned-scientist, Dezmond blends creativity with analytical rigor in his research on bacterial pathogens and novel therapeutic mechanisms. He has held leadership roles at Johns Hopkins and mentors emerging scholars through the Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative (VTSI).
Beyond the lab, Dezmond is pursuing a career at the intersection of science and business, driving healthcare innovation. A graduate of the University of Montevallo and a native of Orlando, FL, he is passionate about making science more impactful and accessible.

Anika Mistry
Senior & 1st-Year MBA , Computer Science, Cognitive Science & Business
Anika is the founder of DevMinds, a therapeutic aid for neurodiverse individuals, and a team captain for JHU’s competitive mock trial team. A passionate advocate for women in tech and entrepreneurship, she has pitched through the JHU Pava Entrepreneurship Center, spoken at the Milken Conference, and competed in the Global Venture Capital Investment Competition. This summer, she will intern at EY in Technology Strategy & Operations.

Amaiya Santiago
Undergraduate, Class of 2026 , Film & Media Studies
Amaiya is a visual and performance artist studying Film & Media Studies, with minors in Theatre Arts & Writing Seminars. Passionate about storytelling across genres, they explore acting, casting, and creative development in entertainment.
With a special interest in science fiction and Black horror, Amaiya creates engaging media that pushes the boundaries of the genre. A self-described polymath, they are driven by a curiosity that fuels their evolving artistic vision.

Nico Macaluso
PhD Candidate, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Nico is a third-year PhD candidate studying the biophysical changes in cells related to aging, immune function, and metabolism. Originally from Florida, he earned his BS and MS from the University of Florida before joining Hopkins.
Beyond research, he is deeply involved in leadership and consulting, serving as President of GSLC, Director of Outreach for JHGCC, and an Analyst at Hopstone Capital VC Club. He also plays for the Hopkins Men’s Club Soccer Team. In his free time, he enjoys surfing, exercising, and traveling.

Diamond Draft
Senior , Public Health & MHS in Environmental Health
Diamond is a Public Health major and dual-degree Master of Health Science student specializing in Environmental Health and Engineering. She researches air pollutants and toxicants and works as a Peer Support Specialist Manager at the Office of Leadership Engagement & Experiential Development (LEED).
Her academic interests include environmental health, risk communication, and policy, with experience in public health research at the B Lab at Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys. Passionate about global health, she studied abroad in Costa Rica and explores issues like air pollution, health equity, and sustainable food systems. As President of Knotty by Nature (KBN), she fosters confidence and cultural pride by celebrating Black hair and identity within the Hopkins community.

Yara Shahidi is an award-winning actress, producer, and the breakout star of ABC’s Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series black-ish. In 2019, alongside her business partner and mother, Keri Shahidi, she expanded her relationship with ABC by signing a multi-year producing deal under the moniker “7th Sun Productions.”
Currently, she serves as executive producer and lead of Freeform’s black-ish spinoff series, grown-ish. She also executive produces and stars in Meta’s new interview show, Yara Shahidi’s Day Off, where she joins her celebrity peers and gets a glimpse into their lives through a variety of experiences that reflect their authentic interests outside of their fame. Shahidi recently took on the role of Tinker Bell in Disney’s live-action film, Peter Pan & Wendy, also voiced a character in Netflix’s 2022 animated film, My Father’s Dragon. She also appeared in Apple’s limited series, Extrapolations.
This fall, Shahidi will executive produce and star in Amazon Studios’ upcoming romantic-comedy Sitting in Bars with Cake. She will also appear in the upcoming action-thriller Ballerina Overdrive, alongside Lana Condor and Lena Headey.
Offscreen, Shahidi is a champion for inclusive media programming, and an advocate for equity. Identified as a leader of the New Hollywood guard, she has received numerous accolades for her work outside of entertainment, such as TIME Magazine’s 30 Most Influential Teens, Forbes 30 Under 30, British Vogue Forces for Change, Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year and Essence Magazine’s Black Women in Hollywood to name a few.
Inspired by her extensive work with President and First Lady Obama, Shahidi founded Eighteen x 18, now called WeVoteNext, to shine a light on Gen Z and BIPOC inclusion in the political process. A sought-after public speaker, Shahidi has appeared in conversation with university peers and thought leaders such as: Dr. Angela Davis, President Obama, Harry Belafonte Jr., former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Dr. Cornell West, Senator Cory Booker, and Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock.
Last year, she graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in Social Studies and African American Studies, with a concentration in Black Political Thought Under a Neocolonial Landscape. Her final thesis for graduation was entitled, “I AM A MAN”: The Emancipation of Humanness from Western Hegemony Through the Lens of Sylvia Wynter. Shahidi currently serves as a global ambassador for Cartier and Dior Beauty. This year, she also served as the spokesperson and judge for the New Legacy Challenge 2.0, the design competition developed through a partnership between Tommy Hilfiger’s People’s Place Program and Harlem’s Fashion Row.

Horizons by Hopkins is Johns Hopkins University’s premier career and professional development conference, designed to empower students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral fellows as they navigate their professional journeys. Hosted by the Doctoral Life Design Studio, the conference offers a dynamic platform for participants to engage with industry leaders, gain insights into various career paths, and develop strategies for personal and professional growth.
Each year, Horizons by Hopkins features keynote addresses from distinguished speakers who share their experiences and insights. In 2022, comedian and former host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, encouraged students to pursue their passions with dedication, emphasizing that opportunities often arise when one is fully committed to their craft. In 2021, renowned historian and author Ibram X. Kendi discussed the pivotal role universities and researchers play in dismantling racism, highlighting the importance of acknowledgment and active efforts toward creating equitable academic environments.
