Green Chimneys is a multi-faceted nonprofit organization helping young people to maximize their full potential by providing residential, educational, clinical and recreational services, in a safe and supportive environment that nurtures connections with their families, the community, animals and nature.
The nearly 200-acre Green Chimneys Brewster Campus, on the site of the original farm property encompasses the school, residential student facilities, a full gym and swimming pool, the Farm and Wildlife Center with over 300 animals, and Boni Bel Farm. Our comprehensive Recreation Department includes a zip line, climbing wall, obstacle course, walking trails, sports fields and Olympic size swimming pool.
The foremost responsibility of the Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator will be to organize and implement groups and individual therapy sessions in Recreation Therapy for the students at Green Chimneys. Will work collaboratively with all Recreation staff and outside departments, to create programming that suits the needs of the children we serve.
Therapeutic Recreation Program Facilitator will primarily provide and assist in coordinating afterschool, evening and weekend Recreation Programming, working as a liaison between the Recreation department and Residential Life staff to aid in the coordinating of programs.
Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator I- Certified for more than 1 year – Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent; CTRS for more than 1 year
Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator II – Certified for more than 1 year-Master’s in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent; CTRS for more than 1 year
Recreation Program Facilitator I – Not Certified-Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent; will consider candidates with no experience
Recreation Program Facilitator II – Certified for less than 1 year-Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent; With certification
What you bring to Green Chimneys:
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Recreation Therapy or acceptable equivalent is required; Master’s in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) or acceptable equivalent preferred.
- Three years’ of experience in an acceptable treatment program setting preferred.
- Experience in facilitating High Rope, Rock Climbing, Canoeing/Kayaking and Challenge Course is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Must be a CTRS for more than 1 year. Will consider applicants with a minimum of 9 months’ post certification.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Preferred
OR
Education/Experience for Recreation Program Facilitator:
- Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or acceptable equivalent is required
- Two years’ experience in an acceptable recreation program is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- A current license/certification in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS) or Art Therapy (LCAT) is preferred
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Preferred
