The Life Design Lab equips undergraduate students in the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering with the tools, experiences, and support to transform curiosity into action and ideas into meaningful futures.
Our Approach
Our applied approach to Life Design helps students transform ideas into experiences and experiences into meaningful opportunities. Through interactive curriculum, academic integration, individualized support, employer and alumni connections, and experiential learning opportunities, students develop the confidence, skills, and perspective needed to navigate an evolving world. The Life Design process invites students to:
Get Curious by understanding their interests, values, strengths, and aspirations through reflection, exploration, and meaningful conversations.
Imagine Possible Lives by expanding their sense of what is possible through connections with alumni, employers, peers, and communities across industries and disciplines.
Experience More by testing ideas through internships, research, projects, and other applied experiences supported by professional readiness workshops, curated opportunities, and scholarship funding that helps students engage in high-impact summer experiences.
Craft Their Story by reflecting on their growth, recognizing the skills gained through their experiences, and communicating their impact with confidence.
Undergraduate Drop-In Hours
Drop-in hours provide a flexible way to connect with a Life Design Educator for personalized support without the need for an appointment. Come with a question, an idea, or a goal, and leave with clarity, resources, and actionable next steps.
Make the most of your drop-in conversation: Before arriving, upload your resume to VMock for feedback. Reviewing your results beforehand allows you and your Life Design Educator to spend more time discussing strategy, storytelling, career goals, and ways to strengthen your professional materials.
Summer drop-ins will run from June 1 – August 26, Monday–Wednesday, 12–4 pm, and will be available both virtually and at the Imagine Center.

Industry
Blue Jay Pathways help Johns Hopkins undergraduates explore career fields, build relevant skills, connect with alumni and employers, and take clear next steps toward internships, jobs, graduate school, and life after Hopkins. Whether you are early in your exploration or ready to launch your search, pathways offer programs, coaching, resources, and industry-specific guidance to help you move forward with clarity and intention.
Healthcare
Students in the pursuit of careers in healthcare can access comprehensive timelines, coaching, resources, and applied experiences through JUMP and the Office of Pre-Professional Advising. Many students will consider taking a bridge year between graduation and advanced education. A bridge year is no longer viewed as a delay in reaching professional school. Increasingly, it is viewed as a strategic period of growth enhancing skills in leadership and problem-solving alongside practiced clinical and research experience.
The Life Design Lab offers guided cohort-based support to juniors and seniors interested in a bridge year through the Clinical Bridge Year Prep Lab.
Graduate School
