Mars Rover Team

Student Organization

The mission of the Mars Rover Team is to design and build a Mars Rover, a space vehicle that is suited to traverse across Mars’ terrain, collect soil samples, and take photos and videos using camera equipment. The team will also offer practical engineering and science education to students at Johns Hopkins University related to building a Mars Rover.

Members of the Mars Rover Team will be able to participate in the University Rover Challenge, a premier rover competition for universities. Last year, there were over 100 universities who participated and only 36 teams advanced to the finals. By participating in the competition, members will gain experience in hands on skills such as designing in computer aided design programs and manufacturing in the machine shop.

Moreover, as the missions are deeply related to a real life Mars Rover, members will investigate topics related to space exploration and environments. At the same time, in order to accomplish the different missions, students from different majors must cooperate which will allow them to learn about new topics and gain communication skills.
