Jessica Mervis is the Director of the Global Education Office. Under Jessica’s leadership, the Global Education Office at Johns Hopkins University promotes, supports, and develops international programs that foster creativity, discovery and excellence in undergraduate education. As Director of Global Education, Jessica leads strategic planning and program development abroad for undergraduates in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering, adhering to best practices in the field. She works collaboratively to develop rigorous and meaningful academic and experiential opportunities that complement the university’s established portfolio of international programs. Jessica provides leadership and guidance on undergraduate international health and travel safety, risk management, and emergency response in conjunction with other relevant offices of the University. She is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with international partners and overseeing the review and approval of Memoranda of Understanding to facilitate international mobility of undergraduate students.
Jessica has served at JHU in the Global Education Office since 2012, rising from Study Abroad Advisor to Assistant Director to Associate Director and most recently serving as Co-Interim Director of Study Abroad. Jessica has previously worked in international education at Washington University in St. Louis and Seattle University. She is fluent in Spanish and spent a semester abroad as an undergraduate in Seville, Spain and a year teaching English in Santiago, Chile. She holds a master’s degree in Student Development Administration from Seattle University and a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from Cornell University.
