The decision to apply for the PHutures Fellow position was a no-brainer after attending my first Horizons by Hopkins conference in 2020. Having started my Ph.D. that year, the organizing team provided a very unique angle of what my Ph.D. journey could be like. The fact that the PHutures team of Ph.D. students, led by the wonderful leadership of Roshni, was able to put together an event of that quality inspired me to become a part of the Office and help other Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows discover their passions as well.

As a Senior PHutures Fellow, I gained extensive public speaking and interpersonal communication skills while engaging over 3000+ doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in life design, experiential learning, professional development, and connections with alumni and employers. Amongst the many other responsibilities, I procured inspiring academics as speakers as well as organized and promoted virtual events to gather student engagement and add value to their experience.

I also had the opportunity to mentor our Social Media Manager in an effort to remodel the Office’s goal of being scalable and accessible to individuals outside of JHU as well. Among the multitude of other projects I was part of as a Fellow, I designed and coordinated the Academic Job Search Series with virtual panels and workshops targeted at diverse student populations.
