Johns Hopkins University has long embraced a philosophy of giving back to the community and encourages our students to get involved in community service. Community service provides the opportunity for students to act as vital members of the community, share their resources with others, and develop skills and leadership abilities while creating meaningful social change. A particular emphasis on community service opportunities exists in the Federal Work-Study Program, which enables students to gain valuable experience working for non-profit organizations and public agencies while at the same time earning FWS wages.

University Experiential Learning, together with the Center for Social Concern, offers opportunities for community involvement that meet a broad range of student interests while providing meaningful service to our community. Opportunities range from working in a community library to assisting in the university’s recycling efforts.
